Why Pilates? My story...

I hate exercise. I hate the word gym even more. My philosophy in life was very simple... “we’re all going to die, and as long as I look good when I do, I don't care when it happens”. Growing up, I had an excellent metabolism which let me inhale all food before me without consequences. I did random, sporadic exercise, from aerobics to kick boxing (the latter loads more fun!) more for fun, rather than real exercise.
While in London, my company decided to offer subsidised Pilates classes at work. Now, being fundamentally lazy and like all "corporate" types, overworked, this seemed like a good option - pause work at 6pm, pop up to the conference room for an hour and then return to work feeling a lot more virtuous. No sweating and minimal effort...and yet, people started commenting on my gym attendance. How odd! My denials led to scoffing comments "You don't get muscle tone like that without going to the gym". Hmmmm.....
Lazy. Minimal effort. Amazing result. That's it. I decided Pilates is what I needed in my life and somewhere along the way, my original philosophy of ".....as long as I look good..." has morphed into “..look good and FEEL EVEN BETTER!”.
When I decided it was time for a lifestyle change, Pilates had to be part of it. How could it not be? Pilates was a part of my life, something I enjoyed doing, and enjoyed feeling the result of. It makes me feel strong, and I'm so much more toned and fitter. PIlates has helped eliminate the usual aches and pains caused by a desk job and at 50, I have the confidence that my body can take the abuse that, running around for an hour on the tennis court thwacking a ball engenders, as I literally throw myself into learning a new sport.
